Southwest Michigan includes Allegan, Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties. The area is known for abundant sandy beaches along the shores of Lake Michigan, with communities spanning the coast from Harbor Country (including New Buffalo, Village of Grand Beach, Union Pier, Lakeside and Sawyer), to Bridgman (with Weko Dunes and Warren Dunes), Stevensville and St. Joseph (with Silver Beach, Lions Park Beach and Tiscornia Beach), Benton Harbor (with Rocky Gap Beach and Jean Klock Beach), Coloma (with Hagar Shores Beach), Covert (with Le Lac Appelle, Palisades Park, Linden Hills and Wilderness Dunes), South Haven, Douglas and Saugatuck.

It also has a variety of inland lakes, such as Paw Paw Lake (Southwest Michigan’s largest inland lake), Little Paw Paw Lake (in Coloma and Watervliet) and Sister Lakes (in Dowagiac, including Magician Lake, Indian Lake, Crooked Lake, Round Lake and Dewey Lake).

Southwest Michigan has become the perfect region to live with convenient access via I-94 and I-196 from Chicago, South Bend, Notre Dame, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. There are plenty of boating, fishing and sailing options to choose from with harbors and marinas in New Buffalo, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, South Haven, Saugatuck and Douglas.

Plus there are a variety of golf courses (including the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Golf Course at Harbor Shores of Lake Michigan), restaurants, wineries, farmer’s markets with locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables, shopping, festivals, antique stores and year-round events.

Among the community’s housing options are wooded retreats, property on large lots, vintage cottages and land to build the ultimate dream home. The Michigan City Amtrak and the South Shore Line both offer daily service from nearby Michigan City to Chicago.
